Stuff!
Sometimes cool stuff just resists being labeled. Whatever it is, if we are interested in it, we post about it! Hope you enjoy whatever we're talking about as much as we do.
Here at WOTS, we stream to our YouTube channel via an nginx relay. Out of the box, nginx doesn't support RTMP, though. There's a module you can download - but it's source only. Since nobody is currently making a PPA for nginx with RTMP support built in, I build mine from source. It's not as hard as it sounds - anybody can figure it out! In this article, I'll archive my scripts for building nginx with the RTMP module the Ubuntu way.
This year at SxSW 2016, we ran into Sassybot - a two person development team showing off Fragments of Him. Fragment of Him is a game jam concept they started at Ludum Dare 26 with Mata Haggis that they ended up deciding to make into a full game. It is an ambitious game, and while I don't think it quite hit all of the notes it was aiming for, I appreciate the multiple challenging subjects it takes on.
You may remember Big Pharma from my review last year - it's a factory sim game that attempts to model the prescription drug industry. This week, Positech and Twice Circled released the first chunk of paid DLC for the game, titled "Marketing and Malpractice." In this article, I'll walk you through the changes, and help you decide if this DLC is right for you!
While at PAX South 2016, we talked to the fine folks at Finji, who clued us in to another Austin-area con, HavenCon! HavenCon is billed as "The First LGBT Geek and Gaming Convention of Texas," and we are Texas geek gamers who can appreciate inclusivity, so we decided to check it out.
Kingdom is a minimalist RTS from Noio & Licorice, and published by Raw Fury. In this 1D, simplified take on a traditionally complicated and involved genre, you are a would-be king (or queen) tasked with growing and protecting a tiny kingdom. We checked this game out at SxSW, and then immediately found it on sale on Steam! I've logged a dozen or so hours already, and managed to destroy a good many kingdoms already. Should you mount up and check this one out? Find out in my Kingdom review!
I got to preview The Banner Saga 2 at PAX South 2016 with publisher Versus Evil, and it was intriguing enough for me to chomp through the first installment so I could be ready for this release. After spending some time with it, I'm pretty impressed with how it has moved the series forward.
The Magic Circle is the debut game from the developers known as "Question" - a studio made up of former AAA development veterans. Their past experience includes significant work on the Bioshock series, as well as Dishonored and South Park: Stick of Truth. The Magic Circle is a... unique game, with a bunch of unexpected twists and turns. I'll do my best to explain without spoiling too much in my The Magic Circle review.
Skyshine's Bedlam is a post-apocalyptic tactical, roguelike RPG released in September of last year. However, the fans were vocal about their dislike of certain bits of the game, and Skyshine went back over it with a fine-toothed comb. Now, the "REDUX" edition is available, promising retooled combat and difficulty. If you passed on Skyshine's Bedlam before, should you pick it up now? Let's go over the game as it stands today in my Skyshine's Bedlam review!
Y'know who gets a bad rap? Giant monsters. I mean, most of them are just napping peacefully until our meddling wakes them up and steals their stuff. Now all they really want to do is tear up a few cities and eat all the tasty, delicious people inside. Finally, there's a game that understands how much fun that can be. Rise and Destroy is a free-to-play mobile title from Kingsisle that puts you in the shoes... err, giant talons(?) of a bunch of different, unique monsters, and tasks you with trashing stuff. Is it worth downloading to your phone or tablet? Let's find out in my Rise and Destroy review.
Deliver Us the Moon is an episodic, exploration-focused game that we had a chance to check out at SxSW Gaming 2016. After the con, I snagged a key for the demo and scoured it from top to bottom! In this article, I'll share the details of the experience and developer KeokeN's plans for the full game!
